Over the last 15+ I have had the great pleasure of building small but strong digital design and development teams. Catering to top tier brands and develop digital products for startups and house hold names alike.

My role has ranged from owning technical architecture and direction, hands-on engineering and product strategy. Proficient in a variety of languages and frameworks but currently most excited about Rust and performant UI engineering in TypeScript.

World Expo Dubai 2020

Technical Direction & Engineering

Expo 2020 Dubai needed a digital counterpart to its six-month physical event. We built a browser-based experience for mobile and desktop that connected a navigable 3D site with the programme, country pavilions, talks and performances.

A navigable digital twin

The map was the primary interface. More than 200 country and thematic pavilions, together with roads, stations, hotels and surrounding landmarks, were reconstructed from photography and existing 3D source material, then optimized for real-time delivery in the browser.

Dubai local time drove day and night states across both the environment and interface, giving the digital site the same daily rhythm as the physical Expo.

Launching with six months of live-shows

The 3D world sat on top of a modular content platform serving pavilion pages, events, editorial stories and recommendations. Roughly 1,500 reusable interface elements supported more than 500 views while allowing each country and installation to keep its own identity.

Contentful powered the editorial model and publishing workflow for event, pavilion and programme content.

On-demand access to a live event

Visitors could move from the map into talks, performances and country programming without leaving the experience. The media layer kept six months of scheduled content accessible across mobile and desktop.

The platform supported on-demand video streaming, turning scheduled Expo programming into an on-demand experience for a global audience.

Search and discovery at event scale

With 192 participating countries and a programme changing every day, discovery was treated as infrastructure. Search, recommendations and contextual navigation connected map locations with events and editorial content.
